Andrew Cole

Dear Parents,

My name is Andrew Cole. As part of my education, I will be in your son or daughter’s fifth grade classroom twice a week (Wednesdays and Fridays) to do a field placement. I am a senior at Metropolitan State College who will be student teaching next fall, and I am looking forward to the opportunity to work with your child. Teaching is a learning process for both the teacher and students. If you have any questions or concerns, Mrs. Tribur will be glad to give you my contact information.

I am pursuing a teaching license because working in a school setting is where I belong. My teaching style is one of discovery and inquiry where I hope to learn from what the students offer and to face the challenge of resolving problems when the situation arises. I enjoy the challenge of discovering the students’ needs and to address these needs for the benefit of everyone in the classroom. Students are unique individuals with strengths and weaknesses who are active learners that provide different challenges everyday. My hope is that the students benefit from learning, and in the process I can adapt their individual way of learning to my teaching.

My role in the classroom will be varied as I need to get different perspectives on teaching.  There will be times when I observe the classroom environment to see how the homeroom teacher manages and creates a community of learners. Also, I will be working with small groups to check the students’ progress more closely and will teach lessons to the whole class to acquire an outlook on teaching when everybody is involved. During this time, I aim to be responsible for my own progress to see what I can do to become better prepared for each type of learning style, and the challenges and benefits that come from teaching in different settings. This should enable me to become better prepared as I continue my role as an educator.  ☺

Sincerely,  Andrew Cole
